Crazy About Mad Men!

The Chicago Trib critic had a story today about how weird Sunday's episode was.

I love Sal too. I felt horrible for him.

Duck is a dick! But, a sad and lonely little dick.

Peggy is totally adorable! I would love to turn my new doll into Peggy for awhile!

I finished watching Season 1 and loved it! Terrific writing! It sets up most of the main characters so well and cleared up some questions I had especially about the Don Draper and Pete Campbell characters. Both came from entirely opposite childhood experiences economically and socially, but are equally conflicted and messed up in their own ways and leave a wake that negatively impacts those closest to them. I think the characters are more alike than they would admit. Maybe that is one of the reasons they dislike and mistrust one another.

I am really going to have to find away to see all of the first season.

Goodness this weeks episode was great. WTH is Don doing? I think he is trying to get away from his fake identity he has created. And The original Mrs. Draper is the only one that truly knows him for who he is. OMG I LOVE that Peggy got that office. She is more talented than any of them anyway. And what a surprise that Pete supported her. He knows how smart she is. Joanie needs to run away from that dominating creepazoid rapist. EWWW!!

Can someone help me with something Peggy said? When Pete congratulated her on getting the office, she said she is sleeping with Don. Was she kidding?

Yes, I think she was kidding - as in "she must sleeping with the boss to get ahead."

That was something that Pete said when she was promoted to copywriter. I think she was kind of gently getting back at him.

Well what do y'all think of Joan's BF? I LOVED that purple outfit she had on.

He definitely has control issues. In fact, I think his raping her was about him asserting his "claim" on her. As someone on another board said, he was "marking his territory". The sad thing is that back then it wouldn't have been considered rape since they were in a relationship.

So true Badger. I felt so bad for Joan :( 30 years ago my ex-husband would force himself on me when he was drunk, and when I confided in some people about it (and I said I felt I was being raped) they would say "You can't be raped by your husband". Well, when someone is drunk and hitting you and forcing you to have sex with him - I say it is rape! And that is why he is my "ex"! No woman should ever stand for that. There actually was a trail at the time I was going through all that. A woman charged her husband with rape. It was in Chicago and it got a lot of press and really got people talking!

Well that IS rape as far as I am concerned.

aerwin, I enjoyed reading the interview with Matt Weiner. It's mind boggling how much is involved in making these shows. I'm glad HBO passed on it or I wouldn't be watching it until it was recorded on a DVD.

Yes, if it is not by mutual consent, then it is rape no matter what the nature of the relationship is!

I am glad it is not on HBO too.

Thanks for the reminder about SNL. It will be fun to see Jon Hamm in comedy skits, as opposed to his oh-so-serious role as a conflicted Don/Dick character.

Tuesday night the El Rey Theatre took a step back in time to host "A Night on the Town with Mad Men," a '60s-era variety act performed by the cast of the hit TV series.

"Mad Men" costume designer Janie Bryant lent her talents to outfitting the performers, and the red carpet was awash with glittery frocks and swanky suits.

I love a good lounge act, but in truth it was the secretaries I was there to see. By day I am a secretary, and as far as I'm concerned the temperamental typists of "Mad Men" are the best reason to watch the show. And the show's lead secretary, Joan Holloway, is a real credit to the profession. With a stern glance and a swish of the hip, she manages to keep the high-spirited staff in check.
Christina Hendricks, the actress who plays Miss Holloway, was not billed as one of the shows performers but I had a feeling she'd show just the same. Secretaries are nothing if not supportive of their co-workers. And sure enough, she joined her cast mates on the red carpet, gushing about how talented they all were.

Thanks for the reminder about Jon Hamm on SNL! Sometimes I don't watch it. I will be sure to watch this week and next week when David Cook is on!

Elizabeth Moss is in the play "Speed the Plow" on Broadway and some of the cast from Mad Men came to the opening night, including Jon Hamm and Bryan Bratt. The reviews have been mostly positive.

Does anyone remember Tom Hulce from "Amadaeus?" He attended the opening and his picture is one of those shown. If his name wasn't printed below the picture, I would never have guessed who he was. He looks like Kenny Roger's sibling.

TY Janice!OF Course I remember Tom Hulce. I love the movie and play Amadaeus. But I must say I never would know him if he passed me on the street.

Jon Hamm has a very pretty girlfriend. I just LOVE Bryan Batt. Vincent( Pete ) is vert cute , isn't he? what a gorgeous eyes. I could listen to him talk all day long.

Oh Goodness! I think I would have thought Tom Hulce was Richard Dreyfuss! He looks like a college professor! Vincent is a super cutie pie! Break a leg Elizabeth! I am sure she is awesome in the play! I love her.

Jon was great on SNL! I was so happy to see Elizabeth Moss and John Slattery in the sketch too!

I thought it was nice surprise to see Elizabeth Moss and John Slattery join him in the show also. It looks like they are a very close, supportive cast.

Here is the second part of the interview with Bryan Batt. The only problem that I had with it is that I think the interviewer talked waaaay too much!

Tonight is the season finale? Are you freaking kidding me?? I feel like the season just started. What a bummer.

Well, they saved the best for last! Great ending to the season! So sad how long we will have to wait for new episodes

Is it just me or does Vincent Kartheiser (Pete) look about 12 years old in real life? I'm guessing Pete's going to be looking for his and Peggy's baby next season.
