| I was just going to post about that. My friends there are all OK. They live on the North Island. ChristChurch is on the South side. But they've each got friends there and I know a few girls from our old group are there too. I have no idea if any of them are okay. I finally just saw some coverage about the quake on the news. What little footage they had was plain awful. Building collapsed and ruined. I've been near tears ever since I heard about the quake but after seeing some of the damage it just breaks my heart. Hits too close to home. | |

| Yes, it does hit close to home, a bit more to you but to me also. A 7.0 quake can be so damaging. I wish I would hear something from her. | |

| I told both my friends if they hear absolutely anything at all to let me know ASAP. I can't take the stress and worrying.

| I really hate that the news here isn't saying much about it. Maybe the cable network news is but not the regular TV news. It stinks. | |

| My friend is okay! They just got their power back on. Huge mess and loads of her beautiful things were broken. Still huge aftershocks but hopefully it will calm down soon. Very scary she said, very scary! | |

| Well I am sooooo glad they are OK! Lucky they got their power back already too!
It is always sad when our special things get broken - but the important thing is they are OK physically. I'm sure they will be upset for awhile after such an experience.
I understand Teddy - just network news just does not do a good job covering world events. Not like cable news does. They have too much to cram into 30 mins. CNN and FOX can devote all the time they want to big news and world news. | |

| Oh good Sky I'm so glad they're OK despite all the mess and their belongings getting shuffled around or destroyed. At least they themselves are fine like FC said. Now I just hope I hear about my friends there. | |

| GOODNESS!! So hard to believe nobody died when you see all those bricks that fell on the cars and street! Talk about God watching over that town!!
Those shots of the ground that opened up freaks me out! My biggest fear about an earthquake is not falling debris but the thought of the ground opening up and be falling into the ground!
Thanks for the link. Really makes you appreciate the day.

| I think they were lucky because most everyone was home in bed when it hit. Had it been any other time there would have been casualties. My friend says they are in a state of emergency, under a curfew and army helicopters flying overhead, it feels like a war zone. Schools are closed until they can assess the damage. Good thing too with the aftershocks they've been having. Those open, gapping cracks freak me out! | |

| Hastings/Hawkes Bay in the northern part of NZ had an earthquake of their own yesterday. I believe it was a 5.2 or 5.4. That's exactly where one of my friends lives. Also while the southern part of NZ specifically ChristChurch is dealing with a huge amount of aftershocks the northern part is dealing with heavy amounts of rain. | |
