| I know nobody will be swayed by what I say. Which is why I usually say nothing about politics. I stick to AI controversies.LOL
But, having said that, it bothers me that the entire Muslim people are being blamed for 9/11, when it was only a small radical wing of Islamism that did it. An entire religion is being condemned and made an enemy, when they have nothing to do with it. We do not want to knock down the "good" Muslims, which only opens the door wider for the extremists. The leader of the mosque in question believes in women's rights, individual freedoms, all the things that the bad guys are fighting against. If the next generation of Muslims is going to go the moderate route, they will come out of mosques like this one.
I'm done. Back to Lopez vs. Twain.

| I myself do not hate the "entire" community of Muslims. I just find this particular situation very unpleasant. It's not the Mosque or the people. It is the location. Seems completely inappropriate and I feel they know it and that is why they want it there. Otherwise - search out a different location.
You know, if my husband accidentally killed someones husband in a car accident just because the house next door went on the market and we would be in our right to buy it - doesn't mean we should. We would be a constant reminder of a terrible tragedy for that family.
The Mosque does not need to be right THERE at the sight of that terribly tragedy to add insult to injury. To be right in the faces of people who go to Ground Zero to pay respect for the lives lost. It is just wrong.

| I hear what you're saying. The reason they want it there is because that's where the mosque owned some land. Land doesn't come easily in Manhattan. But I do get your point. | |

| NINE years later we still have a hole at Ground Zero - but there can be a Mosque? I think not.
Glad you can see where those of us strongly against it are coming from.
Someone posted a comment at one of the sites I was reading that what they would like to see there is two tall beautiful towers with bright lights beaming from the top for all to see. To see we are still strong. That we were not beaten or taken down. This is what I would like too.

| President Obama changed his tune a bit, I think he didn't like the numbers in the polls about this subject and now he is saying he was referring to freedom of religion only. | |

| If his lips are moving he is lying One of my fave quotes about him! Not only the poles but many Dems in office (up for re-election) were not thrilled with him either. His approval is at a new all time low today also. | |

| As someone with no horse in this race, I'm just curious what you all would have thought if Sarah Palin had gotten anywhere near the Whitehouse? Honestly, that scared me a lot more than Obama ever could. ...and don't all politicians lie? I know they do here! | |

...and don't all politicians lie? I know they do here! Believe me that was the main reason why hubby and I voted for Obama. For hubby a very hard core republican was the first time ever voting against the party all because Sarah Palin.

| Even if you like and voted for a politician - what is the likelihood you would 100% agree with said politician?
I will never been in favor of a socialist president. Period.
FWIW - I probably can relate to Sarah a lot more than a man who surrounds himself with Black Panthers and communists.

| Sarah Palin scares me to death. She is incredibly stupid about world affairs, but knows exactly what to say to charm the voters and they fall for it. She seems to be bullet proof. Nothing she does, including resigning public office, brings her down.
Yes, all politicians lie, even if they start out not wanting to. I believe it is necessary in the political system we have, which is too bad. They have to play the game. They have to woo the voters. They have to say what it takes to make everybody happy. We are very hard on our leaders in this country. Every move is seen by somebody as being derisive. Is it that way in Canada?

| I'm sure you're right. What we hear about every politician is mostly false or taken out of context. It becomes almost impossible to get a true reading of any issue, so I usually don't bother. Everything passes through a political filter and gets distorted. | |

| I do not think that Obama lies. I think he is an inexperienced man who thought he could help all the things that were wrong in this country and that continue to go wrong. No other president has had to deal with so many problems. Do you think that John McCain could have done a better job? With Sarah Palin helping? | |

| I think that whoever became president had an impossible task to deal with. I still think the US needs a third party there for more balance. | |

| I agree about the third party. We need something for sure. The two party system with each party ripping the other to shreds divides us and could be our downfall. No president can be effective with the opposing party seeking to bring him/her down. | |

| AIH - I can't prove it and we will never know, but yes I do I don't agree with anything this president has done or is doing. A third party would be a good idea. | |

| Holy Crap! BREAKING NEWS!! Gulf oil rig explodes off La. coast – 10 mins ago GRAND ISLE, La. – An offshore oil rig has exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, west of the site of the April blast that caused the massive oil spill. Coast Guard Petty Officer Casey Ranel says the blast was reported by a commercial helicopter company about 9:30 a.m. CDT Thursday. Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site, about 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast. Ranel says it hasn't been determined whether the structure is a production platform or a drilling rig or whether workers were aboard. Ranel says smoke was reported but it is unclear whether the rig is still burning. Not again! Stay tuned................. | |

| I just read that all workers are accounted for and unharmed and it is believed the rig was not producing product. The choppers do not see signs of a leak. Let's hope that all is true! | |
