Thia wears heels on stage like the other gals. Before someone gets hurts worse the girls need to be told to cool it with the heels. There are some very pretty and stylish flats out there that would go with Pia's dresses and so on. I worry about these girls every season.

Megan had the right idea season 8 tour. Where no shoes at all. Many times when Kelly tours she doesn't wear shoes and I believe Crystal is the same way.

They wouldn't even have to be flat - just much lower heels like say the 3 inch no platform. I have some really cute pairs and you can get really dressy and fun ones. Just NOT those high platforms! Those things and stairs and are not a good combo. Poor Thia - 3 times!

The "American Idol" tour comes to Raleigh

RALEIGH -- Wednesday night, a gamut of show-business possibilities played out on stages across the Triangle. Raleigh's NC Museum of Art had a show by country-rock singer Lucinda Williams, whose current balance of respectable commercial success and critical respect would be the envy of any artist. In Chapel Hill to the west, meanwhile, the much smaller nightclub Local 506 had Sanjaya Malakar -- still trying to wring what he can out of a seventh-place finish on "American Idol" four years ago.

And in between, Raleigh's RBC Center played host to the official "American Idol" concert tour, starring 11 performers who would all like a career arc closer to Williams than Malakar. Years from now, maybe some of this year's finalists will get there. But while these kids seem likable enough, chances are good that this is the last you'll hear of most of them.

If nothing else, the "American Idol" tour represents one last victory lap within the show's protective cocoon before the participants scatter to the stages of cruise ships, casinos, state fairs or whatever other fate awaits. A few of them should just head in that direction and get it over with, especially this year's crop of guys.

Paul McDonald was once again a black hole, especially when he skipped. Casey Abrams should be forbidden from ever again attempting any kind of scat/beatboxing, upon pain of death. Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child o' Mine" is a song that's almost impossible to ruin, but James Durbin certainly gave it the ol' college try. And warbly ol' Jacob Lusk proved yet again that he is not, repeat not, the second coming of Luther Vandross.

As for the gals, Pia Toscano came across better live than on television (while also showing impressive balance on heels that looked like a couple of broken ankles waiting to happen). Then there's Lauren Alaina, this year's runnerup, who has a decent voice but almost no presence. Third-place finisher Haley Reinhart showed more vocal prowess and charisma than the rest of the field combined; it was interesting that she, rather than Alaina, got the penultimate performance slot.

Of course, this year's big question mark is what will happen with Garner homeboy Scotty McCreery, who won the competition back in May and has been trying to convince country radio that he's not just a deep-voiced party trick ever since. As his fellow finalists performed, McCreery spent most of the opening set in one of the arena boxes. When security walked him through the concourse to a tunnel beneath the stands to get backstage, it elicited shrieking squeals worthy of Beatlemania from about 50 camera-wielding girls who had staked out his door.

Actually, the locals probably wished they'd gotten more of Scotty Wednesday night. Every reference to him or flash of his countenance on the video screens drew huge roars from the sold-out crowd. But he didn't appear onstage in the flesh until two hours into the evening, doing all his big numbers from the show -- Montgomery Gentry's "Gone," Thompson Square's "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" and, of course, Josh Turner's "Your Man" (a song he must be truly sick of by now).

Scotty sang fine and showed an onstage ease that will serve him well. And he represented the hometown as you might expect, coming out for the finale medley in a Carolina Hurricanes jersey. For one night, at least, Scotty definitely owned his hometown.

But how long he can hold the nationwide mainstream's attention will depend on his debut album, which he's been working on during the tour. Right before Scotty came onstage Wednesday night, the video screens played clips of all 10 "American Idol" winners being announced in an NFL Films-style treatment, with lots of dramatic pauses and slow-motion interludes. Watching that, it was sobering to ponder how many "Idol" winners already seem done.

Glory can be fleeting -- just ask Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze or Taylor Hicks. But we'll find out, in the long run.

Oi........his hometown paper is about the first to diss Scotty. Isn't that nice? What was wrong with him being up in one of the boxes when he wasn't performing? He's making Scotty sound like a diva. This guy definitely sounds like he has a chip on his shoulder where Idol is concerned.

At least he liked Haley!!

Hey, Raleigh has not always been kind to Clay at all. Tough media there I guess.

David Menconi is an a....... and that's all I have to say about him! He hated Clay with a passion!

I loved the show! And of course, some were better than others, but that's just the nature of the beast!

Some of the surprises, to me, were a couple of standouts that I wasn't particularly interested in when they were on the show...those being Stefano, Naima, James and Casey! They all knew how to use the stage to their best advantage, and Stefano, James and Naima did a remarkable job of getting everyone in the groove and on their feet!! Kudos to them for that!!

I think the producers of this show did a remarkable job of letting each and every Idol showcase what they are best at and really do their own thing! And each of them are so unique and brought something different to the stage!

Naima's performance of Jennifer Lopez' "On The Floor" was great! Everyone was on their feet and dancing in the aisles! The girl has remarkable energy and can really dance her butt off!

Stefano killed it with Bruno Mars' "Grenade!" That song suited his style perfectly! Also loved "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," with the girls backing him up! When he lifted his shirt up, the girls in front of us went ballistic!! And when he took his shirt completely OFF, I thought they were going to dive through the crowd onto the stage!! Stefano definitely has the abs to make this gimmick work......and he WORKED IT!!! Yes, I enjoyed it immensely!

Casey was so cool on "Smooth" and "Harder to Breathe!" And I loved the jazzy "Moanin'" with Haley! They really are great together, and I'd go see them in concert together in a heartbeat!

Haley is a terrific performer, and has such a cute and playful way of moving around on the stage! Love, love, love her voice, and geesh, she is so beautiful! (She looks very much like my older sister, whom we lost to breast cancer way back in 1976...probably what drew me to Haley in the first place - subconsciously, I'm thinkin'.)

Wasn't too impressed with Thia, Paul, Jacob or Pia. I know Pia was on the stage a lot, but I hardly noticed her. To me, she did not stand out at all. She doesn't know how to use the stage like some of the others. She mostly stands in one spot and wiggles her butt back and forth, which looked odd to me. Maybe she has trouble walking on those sky-high heels! Not impressed...sorry! Thia and Paul, sorry to say, were forgettable to me. Jacob sings well, but he's not even close to being the next Luther! And the way he moves when he sings just looks funny! Maybe it's just me!

I really loved the ways James made his entrance, coming from the back of the arena surrounded by "bodyguards!" It's his dream to be a rock star, and it made me smile to see him living his dream by coming into the arena in true rock-star form! I thought he did a great job with "Sweet Child of Mine," and he had everyone on their feet! I love Muse's "Uprising" and thought he sang the heck out of it! Everyone was singing along with him!

Lauren was on stage a lot, and she's good...great voice, great personality, moves well on stage...but she wasn't a huge standout to me. Scotty, on the other hand, stole the show...well, the 2nd half, anyway! This was his night, and I hope he was moved by the roar that greeted him when he came out! The room was electric, and he was on fire! The ease with which he moves about on stage is something to see. He looks like he's been doing this for years...so comfortable with who he is and what he's doing!!

I've worried about him and how he's adjusting to this new-found life of his, but after seeing the interviews that WRAL-TV did, I feel much better about it. This IS the life he wants, and though it IS a major adjustment for him from "child" to "adult," he IS happy...and that's what matters most.

All in all, great show! Loved it!

He liked Haley but I think he was a bit overboard in saying she has more charisma than the rest of them. Some of them, yes, but all?

Canear, I think most MEN like Haley! She is super sexy (but not in an obnoxious way that turns women off, if you know what I mean), gorgeous, confident, professional and has the vocal chops to pull it all off in a very charming way! Love her and can't wait for her album!

Sadly, I missed Clay's homecoming and have always regretted it. I was not about to miss Scotty's if I could help it!

CC, I'm so glad you had such a fantastic time and enjoyed the concert! I knew that you would. I sure am pleasantly surprised but THRILLED that you thought James and Stefano were standouts. Those two really are impressing so many on this tour and the crowd just loves them!

Ugh to that whole article. That writer is an ass hat. If I was Kris, Taylor and Lee I would tell that guy to go take a freaking flying leap. That man is so rude for writing that of them. All of them are living their dream. Taylor has his freaking own label and gets to make his music and doesn't have to answer to anybody. He gets to tour when he likes to and his fans constantly go see him. He is working on a new cd and he is not wanting for anything right now. As it is he is more in the mindset of helping others right now. Kris is making a new cd, he is getting gigs still he is working with amazing groups to help keep the arts in schools. He is doing charity stuff still to. He is getting songs of his picked up by other artist and he is doing one thing that so many people who want to do it can't. He is being able to get a house for he and Katy. Kris is doing what he wants and he is doing fine. For Lee I honestly don't know what is going on with him and his label but I do know that he is living his dream. This writer just needs to shut up

ETA: Taylor and Kris have been pretty much working non stop since Idol ended on various things. As I said I don't know about Lee but I would assume it is same for him.

In my opinion from watching the videos of the tour Haley is not the only one with the charisma. Stefano is killing it,(in a good way), nightly. He has the crowd with him any time he is on stage. Watch the videos and you will see. He is amazing on his solo for Grenade and he is brilliant with Pia on CKB and on the DJ song he really plays the charater to a T and his dancing is pretty awesome to during that part. On all of them the crowd goes bonkers for him. I have heard that Naima totally brings it during her solo and when she is doing background stuff for Stefano on the DJ song she is totally getting her dance on and she for sure stands out. lastly Scotty has loads of Charisma and it is sad more people don't see it. James I know is a fan favorite and people go bonkers for him during his songs also. He puts it all out there every night.
