I didn't much care for him either. He certainly wasn't funny.

That's the thing. Even if you don't mind the mean spirited stuff - it just wasn't funny

I thought he was awful. I wouldn't call anything he said just "mean" either. IMHO he was downright cruel and lethal with his "jokes" which weren't even really jokes! If you watched you might have noticed that a lot of the presenters fired back at him when they came out. RDJ did as did Tim Allen and others. Last night after the rebroadcast was over here on the west coast there was a special one hour news program devoted to the show and they said the room was full of tension. They could feel how on edge everyone was and how unhappy they were with some of the jabs made. I think it was pretty noticeable too even while watching because he didn't get a very lot of reaction and the reaction he did get didn't sound that great. Personally I hope he isn't invited back again to host. I would love to see someone else do it.

You never heard real belly laughs last night from the audience like I have seen when Billy Crystal has hosted The Oscars. He gets huge laughs and applause. This Ricky guy can go back to England anytime. However I read some comments on sites today and a lot of the English don't want him back

I didn't watch the show and happy I didn't. I hate when host do cruel jokes like that. His jokes against the people especially RDJ were out of line. I am glad they fired back at him. RDJ has worked his ass off to clean himself up and to be a better man and then that crass ricky guy introduces him the way he did; that was just cruel and unnessesary,(sp?)

Angel, my mom completely agrees. So do I. One should never crack jokes like that about someone who is a recovered addict. It's a serious and dangerous sickness and that person has to deal with it for the rest of their life. That's just not something to laugh about or snidely make fun of. It's downright rude and inconsiderate.
