| Thanks everyone, but things didn't work out so good. Eric was at court for hours and when his case got before the judge the only thing that happened is a continuance until next Friday. He was there hours longer than ever before and of course missed the interview time. Obviously couldn't call from the courtroom. By the time he got out and called - the owner left as it was 70 mins. past the interview time. Dang..... Eric will call there tomorrow and see if the man will meet with him. But I have a bad feeling..... | |

| You're right, it might not go well. I hope it does though, and I'll keep him in my thoughts. That's a pisser to wait hours only to have a continuence. | |

| Eric had to meet with his probation officer for his first random drug test today. He has had other tests both here at home (yes, we do random test him) and his two docs test him. But all should be fine as he has not done drugs for many months now.
But if you all could pray for him anyway. He is soooo down. He cannot find a job. One problem is obvious. Every time he is called back for an interview and it goes well and they say to him "Well, you are our first choice we just need to do the background check"..... My guess is you can figure out what happens. They see he is on probation for possession and that is that. They even call to tell him "sorry".....
It is so upsetting. I mean how does one get his life back together when these records are open so nobody will give him a chance?
He wants a job so badly.... and there is nothing I can do.

| FC..............That is a tough position to be in. Jobs are so hard to find and then to actually find some until they run the background check. It is totally unfair. Has Eric had a chance to discuss this with any of the prospective employers and maybe tried to talk them into giving him a chance? | |

| Thanks WC. It is such a tough job market anyway so of course when they see someone on probation they are eliminated from the list. He can't even apply yet for student loans to go back to school this soon after the "conviction". Even though it is special probation it is a conviction until he completes the terms of his probation. Then it is expunged from his record. Justin's does not ever go down as a conviction though. Different counties do it different. Anyway - he feels in limbo. Can't get a job, can't get a loan, can't date anymore because no money to date Such a mess... Sky - he did with his last interview. He even told the lady the first interview he was on probation. She still called him back for a second interview. Thing was he didn't tell her what he was on probation for. Have no clue what she thought it was for when she called him for the second interview. However when she found out it was drugs she called and said she was sorry but couldn't hire him for that reason. What did she think would be better? Theft? Assault? Drunk Driving? | |

| FC so sorry about Eric such a tough situation to be in right now, I really hope things will get better for him and you.
It is so hard to see your child suffering and you would like to fix things for him but is nothing you can do about it except to keep the faith.

| Exactly FY. There are so many out there who couldn't care less about turning their lives around, but Eric does so it's very unfair. You would think an employer would at least call his probation officer if they were interested enough in hiring him. Some just aren't willing to take a chance or have a company policy against it. (((Hugs))) and prayers for Eric. He will get through this. | |

| That's the thing about the records being available. I understand employers want to know who they are hiring. I get that. I do. But a young person who made a mistake and wants to get his life back on track can't because nobody is willing to take the chance with them. It's just so sad because if nobody gives former addicts a chance to have a good life - they will fall into despair and can relapse. Not saying Eric will, but the frustration of not being able to work or get student loans leaves him feeling just stuck in limbo. | |

| FC- Aren't there employment agencies around any more that could somehow hook him up with an employer that would hire him knowing his background? There used to be employers that would get their employees from these agencies. Have Eric look into it. | |
