| Hi Aerwin! Hope you are feeling better!
We can get out. We got a total of about 7 inches here in the western suburbs. Chicago got it worse. It is super windy with lots of blowing and drifting - but honestly after seeing what DC and NYC and NJ and Maryland and a few other states got - we feel lucky with just 7 inches.
Th earthquake was much scarier. We never had one that strong here. Only twice in my lifetime did we feel even the tiniest little shake that lasted just a second and you were not even sure if that was it. THIS really freaking shook the whole damn house like you wouldn't believe! Scared the crap out of Justin!

| It is scary! Goodness. I saw how much snow Chicago has. Goodness. We have terrible winds here today 40 mph but no snow. This has been a rough winter. Spring cannot get here soon enough as far as I am concerned. | |

| Very rare Sky! Like I said - twice before in my life we had the tiniest little shake that many people didn't even feel. THIS was really something! Everybody felt it. Now in the light of day walking around we found more things knocked over and cabinet doors opened - several of them.
I cannot tell you how loud the rumble was! SO very scary when you don't expect an earthquake. Everyone was thinking huge plane crash or big explosions. Some of our neighbors thought we were being attacked! Because yeah - we don't get earthquakes!
Yep FY - I suppose to you guys a 4.3 earthquake is nothing new! We probably seems like wimps compared to you guys in California!
It has been a horrible winter! Looking forward to spring myself Aerwin!

| Most people wouldn't feel a 4.3 quake, but it really depends on how shallow or deep the quake was or where the epicenter was located. The last one we had (I don't remember the date) wasn't as strong as usual but it sure shook things up. It just depends on the kind of quake. They can be very scary! | |

| They are saying the epicenter was Sycamore now. That is about a 30 min. drive for us and about 15 for my mom. I guess that is why we felt it so strong. | |

Sky - hope Nathan is doing better today! 4 weeks isn't too bad. Whoa, an earthquake? There? Wow. Well, they are pretty scary when they happen, but in a day or two, you'll pretty much forget about it. I speak from experience ... And yes, I hate 'em. :(

| http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/02/10/illinois.earthquake/index.html Just wanted to add that I lived through the SF earthquake of 1989--that was a 7.1, and it scared the bejeezus out of me. Everything changed in an instant, and I cried for 2-3 days. I just couldn't stop. My dog, Susie Pooch, would alert me to the aftershocks because she could hear them before we could feel them. She'd cry, and then in a few seconds, the house would shake. But the way people helped each other during that time was simply remarkable. Everyone was kind and so courteous. If only we could remember to behave well all the time ... | |

| The earthquake wave makes a very low rumble. Sometimes I can hear it, but the dogs always hear it. Poor Susie was just as scared as I was. When the quake hit, I scooped up my daughter, who was just 2, and stood with my feet planted firmly against the sides of the door opening that leads into the kitchen. My dog cried and wanted up too, but I told her I couldn't and that she had to get under the table. And she did it! I miss that pooch. She was unbelievably smart and loving. I still cry sometimes when I think about her. | |

| I just read a very informative piece of info on where you should go during an earthquake. In almost all rescue events after earthquakes, people have been found trapped/crushed under something, be it a table that collapsed on them or a doorway that collapsed on them, etc.. They suggested to lay down alongside a sturdy object, a sofa, a bed, a chest. The reason is when the building collapses, these large objects always had a space/air pocket around them and didn't collapse all the way, thus making space around them. Makes sense to me........has anyone else heard this? When I think that schools tell children to get under those flimsy desks, I cringe. | |

| Wow!! Hope everything is ok there! We don't have quakes here in the UK..well we do, but I've only known of 2 that I have been aware of.Nothing at all scary...err well the last one was, only because I was in bed & the bed seemed to be moving (I WAS on my own...btw!!!!)Freaked me out a bit at the time.I can't imagine how scary it must be to experience a "proper one" | |

| That does make sense Sky. I also cringe when I think about those school desks Thing is at 4:00 AM in a place where you don't expect earthquakes it is hard to be properly prepared. Goodness that isn't even what we thought it was when it was happening! I thought the furnace was going to blow! I will pass that info along to everyone though for the future. I believe that there are no injuries or any damage anywhere. Just lots of things fell off shelves and pix off walls and stuff like that. Trust me Drifty - it was scary. I cannot imagine how it must be in areas where they get really major ones! | |

| Just heard about the earthquake there on the news as I was reading. They said the actual epicenter was 8 miles underground. So that too can also explain why you felt so strongly.
I was a kid in Elementary school when we had the big Northridge earthquake of 1994. Damn scary!!!!!! I remember having to stay home from school for a few days because of it, It happened very early in the morning when it was still bitch black outside. I got pulled and dragged from my bed from my sister to go stand with her in a doorway before everyone eventually went outside. We lived in an apartment building at the time. My grandparents had it much worse than we did since they lived in Northridge. So many things broke and fell over. Their house was a mess.
So glad you're all okay FC aside from being a bit spooked and that no one was hurt.

I still had to work that day and they had me where i had my head in the air duct where the smoke from the Grease oven would go. I had to clean it. I was afraid there would be big after shocks and something would fall on my head from that thing. It was so scary. There was a big earthquake on the central coast about 5 years ago which was pretty bad and I was home on my own. I was sitting on my bed when it hit and it felt like I was surfing. There was a lot of damage in some central coast city's and two deaths from it :( I hate earthquakes so much. But living in California; earthquake capitol you have to know they are going to hit.
