| I am actually happy that Kris is above Adam on Rick Dees list. Adam's success is established, but I was always afraid Kris would be left in the dust and trashed because he "wasn't the real winner." He is doing very well and I am proud of him. I know Adam feels the same way. | |

| Cd's are not selling really great right now unless you are someone like Josh Groban or Taylor Swift. It is a sad state of affairs in the music world right now. Shannon | |

| There are several others selling really well too - Adele, GaGa, Jackie, Beyonce, Britney, and many more.
The point is David sold over a million a few years ago and this is really a huge drop off. Kinda scary how it goes for many Idols.

| Very few Idols have shown any staying power. They enjoy a few years popularity, but except for a few mega-talents (Kelly, Carrie, Chris), they then fade away. We can't blame it on the state of the music industry because if that were the case, poor sales would be across the board and they are not. I see it as sort of a shakeout, a survival of the fittest in hard times. People are more selective in the cd's they do buy. They aren't going to put down the money unless they really like the artist. Mediocre artists fall by the wayside while talents like Adele (I adore her) rise to the top. | |

| Yep - there are many artists selling really well. No, it's not like the old days because of downloads, but those putting out great music are indeed doing very well and putting butts in seats on tour.
I agree with you Spirit - I do think Adam stands a good chance at being one of the Idols who can make it past the first few years. This sophomore CD needs to be a really good one with radio friendly songs. Radio hits go a long ass way to selling the full albums. I never would have even checked out Bruno Mars' CD if it were not for the great radio hits I heard. It IS important to have radio friendly songs on the CD. That was David Cook's mistake I believe with this album. The single flopped and the reviews were mediocre for the most part. He didn't stay connected to his Idol fans during the long time between CDs and that sure didn't help.

| The sophomore album is crucial. The first album doesn't indicate much, but the second one absolutely does. Most Idols float on their AI popularity the first album, but really don't have the talent or whatever it takes to put out music the public cares enough to buy after that. The cream floats to the top within a few years. Adam is the cream of the last five Idol years. | |

I am not saying they would be,(I said I pray they don't get dropped), but from what is being said with Jive merging with RCA Music group they will have to cut many artist cause both RCA Music group and Jive Music group have a lot of people on their roster. Since they are merging and they said they are only going to have 70 to 80 people on the new RCA Records group there is going to be people dropped. I admit I don't know of many of the artist on either label and all I really care about are the idols at this point. Adam, Kelly, Jennifer, Chris, Carrie, David C., Danny and Lee are all with the RCA Music side,(which includes Arista and J records), Kris, Jordin and Crystal belong to the jive side,(David A did but he left jive). That is a lot of idols,(idols seem to be the ones the labels like to drop,(Taylor, Ruben, Diana, Justin, Kathryn, Kristy Lee Cook, Carly's group and so on), on one label and I want them all to stay there. I may just being a worry wart but I do worry. Carrie for sure has no worries and probably Kelly and Chris. Adam is most likely in the clear but Jennifer even being an Oscar Winner and Grammy winner her second cd has not sold so hot nor has David C's new one. Lee is said to have one foot out the door but no one knows for sure, On the jive side of artist: Kris, Jordin and Crystal are all probably wondering what is going on with them and that is why the three really haven't started recording much of their cds,(Crystal I do not know if she has even started on a sophmore cd), having to go along with all the Jive merging with Epic stuff and then that not happening and now Jive going with RCA they are probably tied in knots, Danny I honestly have no clue but I do know he is supposed to be working on a second cd. Things are all up in the air and a lot of people from RCA are losing jobs right now and there is the talk of artist next. Huge state of Transition right now. ETA: The people speaking of this were Adam fans on Idol Forums so I have no clue how they got that number of 70 to 80 people for the new RCA Records but that is what they posted. Also they must be thinking of how things will effect Adam if they are mentioning this in his sophmore cd thread. I think fans of all artist that are on these labels are wondering and praying that all good happens for their favorite in this old/new label!! Shannon

| Just found this which goes along with the Jive RCA stuff: ***** Label layoffs Nearly 50 employees were laid off at Jive Records yesterday when the iconic label was folded into RCA. As we first reported in June, Jive, which signed Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, would be dumped into RCA as Sony Music consolidates its labels. An insider said that none of the artists have been axed — yet — but most of the promotions department has been demolished. Usher, Chris Brown and Pink will now be managed under RCA. A label rep declined to comment. (Jordin Sparks, Crystal Bowersox, Kris Allen on Jive Records) Read more at New York Post http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/label_layoffs_7QzSqejdINOk88AcMIswrO#ixzz1Vy2Tw87s************** Talk on MJ's is about artist who will most likely stay,(Pink, Britney, Justin, Chris Brown, Carrie) and ones people are not sure of and they have mentioned the idols. People are not sure of things and when nothing is put out there to reassure anybody then some people worry. Shannon | |
