| I think the "4-Chair Challenge" stinks!! How awful for the ones who are picked to go through, get a chair, and then get "Switched" when the Mentor likes someone else better!!! What an emotional roller coaster for these people! It seems really mean to me, and I don't like it! Check out the faces of the ones who are sitting in the chairs when they are listening to the next performer!! Excruciating!! And the Mentors are squirming in their chairs when they're making their decisions! Yikes! So uncomfortable for everyone, IMHO! Awful concept! Who the heck thought this one up??? The people who haven't performed yet can figure out that if you are in the first 4 to go up there, if you make it through, you'll likely get switched when the rest of the group performs!! Stupid! I'll have to really weigh whether this show is even worth watching any more! | |

| I totally agree with you CC!
And with all the shows coming back for the fall season I am not sure I want to keep taping my other shows and watch this one. Mom called me last night and said she hated the 4 chair thing too, mostly because Kelly put EVERYONE in the chair only to swap them out. I think Santa was the only one of her ten to not take the chair. So silly.

| The chair thing really is silly. I see no point to putting somebody in a chair, only to kick them out shortly after. I do like it better than going to the judges' homes and the silliness around that.
I agree with FC that people do care about being deceived. I don't care if Rachel Potter has been on Broadway or that Lily has had albums. I do mind when the show presents them as amateurs, working as a bartender and being a grandmother.
Where is Simon? This new guy is not the Simon I used to admire. Last night one of the judges remarked that a contestant did not fit into the current musical market. Simon said, it doesn't matter whether they fit in or not just so they can sing. Remember that was his big gripe on AI. He evaluated the contestants on whether he could fit them in somewhere and sell records. I think it's because he knows this show is not seriously looking for recording stars. He knows they are probably not going to sign anybody, so he is just going through the motions.

| Exactly! And looking and "being" commercial is HUGE when it comes to signing an artist!
He was talking about Santa. Maybe he just wanted him "cast" on the show. Santa was NOT going to get tons of votes that is for sure.
And YES, please stop portraying Lily/Nicole as just a grandma when she has done a TON of things and had 4 albums out!

| FWIW, very very few people in show business are able to make a living only by acting/singing/dancing etc. Most of them have to work at other jobs to pay the bills.
I have to admit I didn't get the chair thing at first either when I started watching it. Then I realized it was a situation where no one is safe until the last person in the category sings.
The UK version will have another twist once the live shows start. They're going to do flash voting and the act with the lowest votes after 10 minutes will have to participate in a sing-off for survival with another contestant. Voting lines will remain open and the second contestant will be revealed on the show the next night.

| It just sounds to be like the X-Factor Franchise is getting very desperate trying to come with anything to get peeps to watch. | |

| Oh I like that flash voting idea! If they had used that with the audience last night. the results probably would have been different.........Rachel Potter sure would have been gone. I've always thought it was important to have more audience input before final group is chosen. The judges might think someone is marketable but the audience will hate them.........or the other way around. | |

| AI was a true talent show, seeking to find the best. These new shows are merely television productions, each trying to come up with gimmicks to outdo the other. Finding recording artists is not on their radar screen. I watch X Factor, but can't take it seriously. There is a desperation to it. I wouldn't be surprised if this were the last year for the show. I hate The Voice and those stupid red chairs. I've tried to watch, but simply cannot. It is most about the antics of the judges pretending they have uncovered the greatest talents since the beginning of time. They know better. | |

UK TV shows are different as it is all in the same time zone so they can vote and have results the same night. So it can be very interesting and fast paced. I liked that chat show they had with Olly Mars backstage. Not sure if they still have that.

| Same here! Plus she snagged some incredible singers!!
So far no one on the X-Factor comes close to anybody on The Voice.

| Actually, the act with the lowest votes won't leave, they just have to be in a sing-off with a second act which will be revealed the next night. I assume it's the act with the lowest number of votes once the voting restarts. | |

| I was thinking the voting would be just the studio audience so that would eliminate the timezones.
Even in the singoff, the audience at least would have some say in whoever gets through since they put them there. I do think the problem with some of these shows is the lack of audience input before the live shows.
I'm with you Spirit. I can't bear to watch The Voice even if they do have the best singers. Sometimes I just like watching the performers try, not necessarily because they are the best, but they have a passion to sing.

| Last night was more of a joke than anything. The four chair deal would be SOMEWHAT better IF they were to have EVERYONE sing FIRST and then DECIDE who goes THROUGH. But no this apparently stirs up more drama and of course they really need DRAMA. It's rather ridiculous if you ask me and like CC said incredibly uncomfortable not just for the contestants but for the judges too. What the heck is the point of giving them all a seat when they were TERRIBLE and ultimately booting them anyway? I love James and I support him wholeheartedly but not even him alone can make me sit through this show in real time. I catch the videos online when I feel like it and sometimes I don't even watch them all. | |

| My mom called this afternoon and we both decided we aren't going to watch anymore. She said maybe towards the end when they get down to the last few. I'd stick with it for Simon if nothing else was on. I might watch tonight just to see Rion's reaction to getting through. Or maybe I will watch The Vampire Diaries instead of taping that like I always do and catch a You Tube of Rion getting through. | |
