| Oooh, canear, what was Virtue and Moir's program like? I remember reading about it at Figure Skating Universe but I don't remember what I read. :) I liked their free skate from last year, with the black costumes and the kind of abstract positions, but they didn't get to skate it much. Who are the top contenders in the US? Um, I'll give you my personal opinion. LOL. Let's see, our pairs suck so you can pretty much forget that. I think I'm the only person in the world that likes Inoue and Baldwin but they probably won't make it to the Olympics anyway. In dance there's Belbin and Agosto. I can't stand them and I wouldn't be surprised if Davis and White, who are getting better all the time, beat them at Nationals. My personal favorites are Navarro and Bommetree but they'll probably be 4th at Nationals. In ladies the big news is Sasha Cohen making a comeback. I'll believe it when I see it. (Not a fan). Otherwise a lot of young girls. I like Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nagasu and Kimmie Meissner. I expect Alissa Czisny to not repeat as US Champion and if Sasha can stand up reasonably well she's got a spot to the Olympics locked up so it will really be a fight between the other girls. In mens I'd have to say the frontrunner is Evan Lysacek given that he's world champion but...he makes me puke. I'm a huge Johnny Weir fan. There's Jeremy Abbott and bunch of other young guys I don't pay too much attention to but in a right world those 3 will probably make the Olympic team. My other favorite Eliot Halverson will likely be someplace in like 11th place. Be glad to get Canadian coverage! We get close to nothing here all season. The ladies FS from Skate America, and a few hours of Nationals and Worlds is it. Icenetwork.com is the best thing ever IMO. |

I guess my one word for their program would be romantic. They are just so beautiful together they literally just float across the ice. Their story is so interesting considering they both grew up in the same small town here in Ontario, Canada and are world class ice dancers. My friend actually took video of the program, it's not the best quality but you might get an idea what it's like from it. Hope the links work! I daresay they're going to be very strong contenders at the Olympics and World's this year.

Of course, in men's, we have Patrick Chan. He's a phenom. We were all shocked when Jeffrey Buttle retired last season but injuries had taken a toll on him but Patrick stepped right into the world scene without skipping a beat. A definite contender!
In ladies, we have Joannie Rochette. With all the strong Japanese and US skaters, she'll be hard pressed to medal but I wouldn't count her out of the Top 5.
Our pairs are up in the air (ha!). Davison and Dube are incredible but they've been having a tough time of it since they split up personally. Apparently it's taking quite a toll on them professionally. It's a real shame considering they are probably one of the best pairs in the world.
Overall I expect the Canadians to do very well in Vancouver. There will be a lot of pressure though, skating in their hope country!
I'm not a huge fan of Sasha either. She has always seemed so into herself. I never thought she was all that because of it. I love Johnny Weir too! Like Adam, he dares to be different. His artistry is incredible and I don't think he has ever reached his full potential. Evan is good and will do well at the Olympics but I don't find him to be the most exciting skater in the world. It will be interesting to see how the return of Plushenko plays into all of this.
I can't wait for the Olympics! I'll probably be watching them 24/7 when they're on. We have such high hopes for our athletes here and everyone is really very excited. |

| Shoot, that link didn't work. LOL, canear, that's exactly why I don't like Sasha. I always thought her motivation was showing she could beat Michelle Kwan, which she really couldn't, so it will be really interesting to see how she does. I think the Grand Prix season is going to be so interesting seeing who's doing what and how it will all play into the Olympics. I love Joanie! She has the most beautiful costumes. I am still warming up to Patrick Chan for some reason. I kind of think Plushenko won't actually compete or else won't be a factor. Regardless, I don't think he'll be untouchable like he was at the last Olympics. I think the men's field is so wide open. Oh, and I can't wait to see Shen and Zhao! My dudes!!! Though I have a soft spot for Pang and Tong because my husband and I once shared an elevator with Jian Tong and he was so cute. |

| Oh count me in as another who loves figure skating!!!! It's always been my favorite sport, along with gymnastics, since I was a little girl. Sadly with all the changes in the sport and them pulling practically every skating competition off the air, not even getting crumbs to satisfy, I have practically lost all knowledge of the sport. I don't know who very many skaters are these days. I know Johnny and Evan, Rachel and Kimmie and the ice dance pair but that's really about it. I don't even know how the scoring system works and every time I try to figure it out it just gets too damn complicated for my liking. It sucks the fun out of things and I hate it. (Sorry canear. I know Canada created it.) The one thing I like about it is, in some ways, it gives others more of a chance to be at the top. zara, what does that icenetwork site have on it? Does it show a lot of the programs? I don't just want to read about things. That's just not fun to me. I want to be able to see it too. Watch with my own eyes so that I can make my OWN judgments. Sasha making a comeback? ICK! No! No! NO!!!!! If anyone were to make a come back I'd want it to be Michelle and I know that's not going to happen. ETA: I just read about Kimmie's withdrawal from the Grand Prix Series for the season. So bummed. http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091008&content_id=7399410&vkey=ice_pressrelease |

| I guess we're lucky up here since we always get a lot of skating coverage. Hockey is #1 but figure skating is right behind in popularity. I don't understand the new system either, teddy. All I know is that it does seem to be a lot more fair than they previous system which rewarded all the tricks and not the artistry and footwork. That's so sad about Kimmie especially in an Olympic year. There is such pressure on them to succeed. I can't imagine how it's going to be for our Canadians at home. I need to check when all the competitions start! teddy.........I just flicked on the end of the Dodgers game and how exciting that they pulled it out in the bottom of the 9th!! |

I hate the new scoring system.
Not a fan of Sasha even though she is beautiful to watch on the ice when she is not falling.
Waaaaa so sad that Michelle is not competing, but hey she has moved onto a new portion of her life and that is getting her masters degree i believe. You go Michelle!! She has not retired though and I can tell you that is probably pissing off people who want her for their shows. Cracks me up.

Yes they did! Good for them! I was hoping that the Twins would beat the Yankees (sorry to any Yankee fans but I despise them!) but sadly they didn't. They're heading home now, so hopefully they can pull it back together there. If not, it will be on the Angels to beat those Yankees. I don't know how Jeter and Rodrigues fit in the same stadium with the size of their egos! |
