| Thanks gals for your compliments! Glad all the weeds blended in in the photos! I am in the "Palm Springs" of Washington State...semi arid, so humidity is nill. It is much drier than western washington. I love the way my skin feels hydrated when I come up your way Sky! | Sky wrote: | love some of the grasses, do you have any that aren't invasive? I had planted one last year to temporarily fill a spot until we could move a tree to the location and it was really invasive and spread rapidly with underground runners. Now, I will only plant one in a pot first to see how it behaves.
Do you grow lavender? I have a nice grouping of lavender on the front corner and will take a pic when they come into bloom. |
All the grasses I have planted do not have runners, but get huge after a few years so I have to divide and separate. I don't grow lavender except in herb pots, but I love it and want to try growing some. I need to find the right spot. [/quote]

| I have lavender. It does real well. It smells so good. I don't know why I did not think Illinois would be humid. |

| I can see why you would think that - but we are! It is not uncommon in late July and August to have 90% humidity! Justin's hair does a complete frizz and mine does a complete droop! We get so much condensation on our beverage glasses it isn't funny! That is why when hubby was offered a promotion to Houston years ago we said NO THANKS because we had been told it was way more humid there. _________________ "You can kinda just be. | We had some rain after our long dry spell. A lot of my delphiniums were bent over and broken..............they looked good for a while though. I staked some of them back up but we just had some heavy rain again so I'm not sure what they'll look like in the morning. |

What a bummer! We had heavy almost tornado winds the other night and it bent some of mine over too...I was a little sick because they were nearing their peak. Most of them are intact though. I am thankful for that. Hubby made a little arrangement out of the ones that broke off and it is beautiful. |

| I did manage a nice bouquet with them plus a few others from the garden, that's the reward for growing them.........being able to have fresh cut flowers. |

| Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...well you know my gardening tip about snails (no point in yelling at them!!! - they are deaf) My other tip is...if you have a Ceanothus growing at the bottom of your garden, don't ignore it!!! It's a triffid in disguise - one day it's a little bush with beautiful blue flowers, next minute it has spread & is tapping on the window when you are asleep!!! (Hmmmmmmmmmm...maybe that was just my nightmare!) Seriously, my Mum planted it for me in the garden, & as it got bigger I thought YAY, my own bit of countryside in the middle of town (alongside the Buddleia which is a manicly growing thing too!) Oh yes...& the Clamatis which looks lovely when in bloom, but eventually attached itself to my rotary washing line! I now have about 3 inch square of lawn to sit on. Can you tell I'm NOT good at gardening! |
