Here is a photo of our finished steampunk copper pipe tree for the steampunk shoot! We will use it as garden art somehow when I am done with it as a prop. [img] [/img]

My husband made it. He really enjoyed doing it too! I will tell him you guys liked it!!! We are going to decorate it and use it outside for the holidays. I am just trying to figure out if I should just put bronze or blue lights on it or these blown glass decorations. What do you guys think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=380071552872This is what it looks like at night with just an up light...

EEEK!!! It looks amazing outside with the light on it!!! Those blown glass ornaments are gorgeous!! I would get those for it! With the light shining on them!! To die for!! I wouldn't mind getting some of those blown glass ornaments for one of our trees! _________________ "You can kinda just be. Just live your life -- and play." Adam Lambert - OUT mag.

Ooooh............It's even more amazing with the uplight! I don't know......I liked the idea of the blown glass ornaments, and then Aerwin mentioned blue and copper together! Do you plan on uplighting all the time? I was just thinking maybe light strings would detract from the beauty of the piece? How tall is this piece?

Oh, I think Sky is right about the light strings! I would do the blown glass ornaments and then shine the light on them. _________________ "You can kinda just be. Just live your life -- and play." Adam Lambert - OUT mag.

Yes, I agree that light strings would definitely detract...those blown glass ornaments have a bluish tinge to me...they have them in cobalt blue too. Aerwin, I do think the blue with the copper would rock! Sky, the tree is quite large, I think 3-4 ft tall at it's highest point. Thank you Sky, Aerwin, and FC for your kudos on this! Hubby will love the feedback. This has been one of his fav projects!

3 or 4 feet??!! WOW! What an undertaking! How freaking awesome is that going to look outside for Xmas??!! You guys are such an amazing couple!! So much talent! I adore those blue cube ornaments! But how many would you need? They only come in sets of two right? The blue garland is beautiful also! That would look really great too! I think that is going to be one hard choice to make. _________________ "You can kinda just be. Just live your life -- and play." Adam Lambert - OUT mag.

Very difficult choice!! I find it hard to decide, you'd almost have to hang something on it and see what it looks like. Where did you get the idea for the copper tree? It is just beautiful and your hubby is very talented.

Forgot..........will this be in a protected area outside? I'm thinking wind/rain/snow blowing a garland or bulbs around. This would be striking in the snow with something blue!!!

Good point about where it will be. It will be outside...so the elements blowing things around prob ably won't work. I can look into plastic stuff I guess...won't look quite as good, but will hold up to the elements much better. Really, the doll hobby inspired this endeaver. We like collaborating on artsy/craftsy projects. I started to get intruiged by the steampunk genre of literature and art and the use of metals (especially copper and brass) and technology in a neo-victorian style. Some other doll collectors turned me onto the steampunk movement and I started to dress some of my dolls in this style, and needed some props. My husband is an artist, so got inspired by steampunk as well. He is also painting me a backdrop for my Steampunk Alice in wonderland project...
