I tried my first heirloom tomato and lemon cucumber today...they were both really great! Don't know the variety of the tomato but it was yellow with green stripes!

I would love to have an heirloom vegetable garden with stuff you can't find in the stores- if I just had more time...

I have never even heard of heirloom veggies Shocked

I will have to do some research on those and check them out!

I do not eat a lot of (or any) real interesting foods. I think I should become more adventurous!!

My sister grows heirlooms...........I'm not what exactly, but I know she loves them and talks about them all the time. I'm sure she grows cucumbers and tomato though.

So, how much different do they taste?? I don't eat cucumbers.........

My family loves cucumbers! I eat them with the skin on Rob peals them. Justin and Eric will eat them either way. I would love to try some new types of veggies. I am so going to find out if I can get them somewhere around here. We love raw veggies in dip. It would be fun to try something new and different for party trays too!

The lemon cukes are a slightly more firm texture and have just a slight tang...we really liked them!

I love homemade pickles. My mother used to like to pickle vegetables. We had pickled cucumbers, pickled peppers, pickled tomatoes, pickled onions.

I like those little baby carrots and broccoli and cauliflower for dipping.

My all-time favorite vegetables though are mushrooms, spinach and asparagus.

I had an aunt who canned and pickled. I still would love to learn to can things. I keep telling myself I will do that. I bought a book about it with recipes, but I just have not gotten all the supplies I need.

Veggies and dip is a fave here both with my family and daycare kids.

Asparagus is my fave veggie!! Especially in a creamy sauce. I also love brussel sprouts and rutabaga. I don't make those 3 that much because Rob and the boys are not big on them. That is why I need to check out some new and different veggies. I need to find something we all will eat. At this point the only veggies all 4 of us eat are green beans and carrots Rolling Eyes That is why I have taken to making lots of salads. At least I can get everybody to eat a nice salad.

Badger,I would kill for some good homemade pickles! Do you have any of your Mom's recipes?

I should try and make some...but I quit canning when I moved into this house and have a solid surface stove.

Rutabegas I haven't had since I was small and I didn't like them, but I'm willing to try them again. I didn't think I liked Parsnips from memories as a child, but I love them now. Maybe it was the way they were prepared. I love artichokes and asparagus the best. Artichokes are my granddaughters favorite!

I don't can, and have no desire to........I think I was always afraid of poisoning someone if I didn't do it right.
