Firecracker, licorice tea is so sweet you could probably drink it for dessert.

I like chamomile tea. Remember that's what Mrs. Bunny gave to Peter while Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail were having bread and milk and blackberries for supper!

Any buttermilk drinkers here? I love buttermilk!

I don't drink any kind of milk. Just never liked it - except in my cereal Razz But I love buttermilk pancakes and waffles and syrup! Very Happy Now my Dad used to drink buttermilk and eggnog. I can drink a little eggnog, but not too much.

I am going to have to check out the licorice tea! I will look for it the next time I go out shopping.

OK, I looked up Licorice Tea and where to buy it. Then something caught my eye in the list of google hits. "How much licorice tea is too much?" That made me remember how sick my mom got once, and had to be taken to the doctor, from eating too much licorice. We found out at that time the effect on your blood pressure and heart and it can effect your meds.

Here is some info on that at IVillage.

http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/herbal/msg0309281127340.html

They sell it at Drugstore.com, where I got all of Eric's Earth Science products so I think I will order some from there. I will be careful to only drink it on special occasions. I don't want to do anything that raises my blood pressure. So it is a good thing to know.

Not a big fan of licorice myself...

Had to share an outstanding chocolate cake recipe that my husband made last night. It has some unusual ingredients and the recipe came from The Canyon Ranch Spa-it has no added fat other than the chocolate! Only 135 calories per serving if you have a small piece!!! It is so good though, you may have to have a large one! Twisted Evil

I plan on getting the Canyon Ranch Cooks Cookbook!

When my dad was a senior in high school, he got into a fight with his phys ed teacher and got kicked out of the class. He needed a credit to graduate and guess what the only open class was? Yep, home ec! So my dad became the first boy in Wisconsin to take a home economics course. Actually, his grandma taught him how to bake when he was pretty young so he already had kind of a head start.

Getting back to unusual foods, whenever my grandparents came to visit us, my grandfather used to make us sweet and sour veal hearts with dumplings and ginger snaps. The dumplings were huge and covered with browned butter.

Oh - the dumplings sound awesome! I love any dumpling! BUT, veal hearts?! affraid I so can't bring myself to eat any organs. I have never even tasted liver No

Cool about your Dad taking home ec! I had a couple of boys in one of my home ec classes - cooking! I remember because he made lobster for his final project. That was the first time I saw a lobster meet his maker.

I should clarify...my husband combined and bought all the ingredients. I helped him mix it and he decorated it. It is his first try at baking other than making waffles.... I hope since it was successful he does it again real soon! Twisted Evil

To watch my hubby even make eggs, he acts like a world class chef, it's hilarious, but I only watch and keep quiet. Wink I'm not a big egg eater and he always offers, but to be honest........I don't like the way he cooks his eggs. Mine once tried to help in kneading some bread dough..............that didn't work out too well, he was much too easy in the kneading!

I think it would be wonderful to have a hubby that cooked regularly.

I used to wish I was married to Emeril! Between his amazing cooking and baking and all his $$$$$ - plus he is funny - he would make an awesome hubby!

Do you make homemade bread from scratch Sky? I am strictly a bread machine gal Very Happy

Yes, back to unusual foods. I looked into "heirloom veggies" and I found a book about them that was $169 on Amazon Shocked I couldn't really find out a whole lot about them. What are they really?

I have three friends whose husbands do all the cooking for the family. They love not having to plan and prepare meals and gladly do the clean up.

My Dad retired a few years before my mom and decided that he would learn to cook, which he never had a interest in before. When Mom got home from work, dinner was ready. She was thrilled and encouraged him with whatever he prepared, no matter how it turned out, as it was a real treat for her. flower The same thing happened with one of my aunts and cooking became a hobby with her husband. He took over the grocery shopping as well! She loves it!

Unusual food - When I got married I was introduced to mincemeat pie made with venison. The men in the family hunted every year and always brought home a deer. I didn't care for the taste of venison, but when my mother-in-law said that the mincemeat pie was a favorite dessert at family gatherings, I thought I should at least try it. It's not something I would choose, but it wasn't bad and I usually had a small piece. I think the secret was the use of the homemade apple cider. It was strong and probably neutralized the venison taste.

There seems to be a couple of types of mincemeat pie. I bought one last year at the holidays and it was all fruit and raisins and such. It was excellent. But I know when my mom was little her mom made a mincemeat pie with beef. She didn't care for it much and never made it for Dad and me.

My FIL did the same thing! He retired before my MIL and not only took over the cooking but a lot of the cleaning! Lucky lady! Not a chance my hubby would volunteer to take over the housework! Razz
