Good grief I seem to spend my time ranting at the moment!!!!
Ok - sat here tonight with a big bowl of sweets for the kids, & a "lightning lamp" in my window to let people know I'm Halloween "friendly".Had a few polite kids call round - so sweet THEN.......sat here heard an almighty BANG on my door. Some friggin kids (who hadn't even knocked on my door) had obviously pinched a pumpkin from someone elses garden, complete with tea light inside - & thown it at my door!! FFS it could have broken the windows in it!!
Why do so few people have to ruin it for everyone else????
Hmmmm might have to watch that vid Sky put on the "smile" thread again - just to cheer me up!

I have no idea why some kids have to be vandals etc. I know Halloween is a big night for these sort of issues. Hopefully the rest of the night will be quiet for you.

It has started here and I have had 8 really fun cute sweet kids from the neighborhood! All girls so far though. Two of the 8th grade girls I know came here dressed as "hippies from the 70s". They thought they looked pretty dang funny! I told them that is how I dressed in HS!

The kids I had here before were cute, I knew one group as they live round the corner (plus - in their masks, they said Hello Debbie - so I kinda recognised their voices...but had to "guess" who they were ) The other two had really made an effort too.I did miss getting any of the "toddlers" with their mum's that "hide" - they are the sweetest ones.

I have had about 35 kids so far! Boys, girls, wee ones and one teen boy who came in his Subway Sandwich shop uniform!! I teased him that he put a lot of creativity into his outfit.

Drifty........what mean little buggers that tossed the pumpkin at your door. I love the lil ones that come, and some so shy they won't say anything! Then you have the big teens still trying to get away with it! If tonight goes as average we'll have 75-90 kids.

Yes, we are at about 60 so far. It is slowing down though - it is 5:30. They can TorT until 7:00 PM.

Ours don't start until it's dark............ You must have some kind of ordinance on time? That's cool, I wish we had a time restriction.

We have 3:00 to 7:00 PM. If Halloween falls on a weekday it is 4:00 to 7:00 PM. It has been that way the last several years now. I think they want the little ones off the streets once it is too dark. Our neighborhood isn't bad - bet there are lots dark winding farm roads kids live off of. It's fine with me. We know when to eat dinner then without worrying about having to get up a lot

I really do like the little toddlers ...& hearing mum whispering from a distance.I had really hoped that a few called here as I had said to the others to take a handful of sweets...I so wanted to say to a little child that they should take a handful...& then say " well you have little hands...so maybe you should also have a Drifty sized handful too" *sigh* (see I am a little softy really!!)

I'm so angry about the Pumpkin though...after all, someone had made the effort to carve it out for the spirit of the evening!
In the past I have had eggs thrown at my window etc - again without anyone actually knocking on the door! It got so bad in the town one year that kids were actually banned from buying eggs from the local shops leading up to it!!

Aw Drifty - too cute about your handful instead of their tiny one. I put a ton of various candies in a large pumpkin basket and tell the kids they can take several and I just had a little boy Buzz Lightyear with black mittens on who was having a devil of a time getting at what he wanted. So I helped him toss several bars in his little bag. So sweet. We used to have such fun taking our boys door to door. Now they both are delivery pizzas to parties tonight and collecting tips instead of treats

Hehehe - your boys can deliver to me with a pizza...& my tip would be "grab a handful of sweets....ummmm...Drifty sized...coz you have bigger hands!"
