That is my bathroom only! Hubby has his own! I don't share with anybody. I have all my products and make-up strewn all over that countertop usually baybee! I know it is not good for resale, but we plan on being in this house for another 20 years so what the heck!

I do see your hubby's burns, HL.......ouch. He got them from concrete? I've never heard of that happening before. We have normal vinyl that was professionally installed in the kitchen. We went with this store for installation because they said they had installers that could do a 'cove base' with the vinyl (thats wrapping the vinyl up the wall instead of using a baseboard). By the time the coving started coming off the wall and the seams on the coving opened, the store was closed. I think we plan on a tile laminate flooring next time. One of the best DIY projects I did was to use a concrete stain to paint/stain over a solid dark brown fireplace of ours. I hated the brick, it was like a dark, gloomy focal point in the room. We would have done some other kind of finish, if it didn't have a raised brick arch around the opening. It took me years to talk hubby in to letting me do it! What an improvement. By using a concrete stain, it still allows all the texture of the brick to come through.

That concrete stain over the fireplace sounds cool! I love inexpensive do it yourself projects that give professional results. I like laminate floors, they are easy enough now to do it yourself. For our lifestyle and budget it has worked out great. Someday I will go hog wild and have granite countertops in my kitchen. I don't care what it costs.

We put a wood laminate floor in the computer room. My hubby is now over at our son's helping him put in a wood laminate floor. Anyway, here is an OLD picture of a before and after from my fireplace brick. It's too bad you can't see the new colored brick better, but all the roughness and texture of the brick is there. Paint would not have allowed any brick texture. We've since added floor to ceiling shelving units on each side of the fireplace and mounted our TV on the wall in one section. The new isn't actually white as it appears in the picture but an off white.

Hehehe good to see Mr HL is doing all the work & Mrs HL is taking the pics!! Hope you did say things like "Are you sure you are doing that right?" & "See I thought it would have been better to do it that way" (when things didn't go right ) Awwwww only joking - looks like Mr HL is managing very well - dunno about health & safety though - can you get steeltoed sandals? (BTW - I'm fairly accident prone, or in my case it's clumsy!) ROFL - I did notice the drill on the sink - I remember when I bought my first drill, I stood in the middle of the kitchen with it plugged in, in a James Bond pose every now & again going "VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" with the drill. In the end I fixed a toilet roll holder to the bathroom wall - hehehee I was determined to drill some holes somewhere! Love the look of the floor tiles!!!! Good luck with the rest of the project. :)

That really looks good Sky!! Hat's off to you for doing it Do you use it as a "real fire"? - I so love to see a real fire *sigh* My sister & her husband have a thatched cottage in the country & have a huge wood burner which is lovely to sit by in the winter. They have added an extension onto it now - but it was a real bugger as it is a listed building so plans were turned down time & again. They are getting there though :)

I will try to take some recent pictures, the only ones I have are from Christmas. Yes, Adrift it is a real fireplace. We'd convert to gas but the gas hookup is at the other end of the house. We really don't want that long of a gas line just for a fireplace. I'd love it though. |

OMG Adrift! You are cracking me up! I better look into those steel toed sandels for sure! He has had the bloody things for 15 years I swear! They are about ready to disintegrate...I wish Birkenstock did'nt make them last that long... Would you and Fang like to come over and be our safety project inspectors and comedian at large? *bats eyelashes* I know to keep my trap shut and stay out of the line of fire when the DIY projects start up....that is the only way to keep the peace! I will be helping laying the tile and painting...my turn has not come up yet. That is when I will need my mouth duct taped for sure! Man, I am glad I started this thread...I think I am going to need a place to vent when we really get in the thick of it!

When Rob wallpapers I leave the house! Lots of swearing! But he does an awesome job with it so I don't ever say a word. Rob loves to paint too. Landscaping is his specialty though. I think he wanted to build a new house so he would not have a lot of remodeling projects. Our second house needed a ton of work!! He redid so many rooms. We built our first house and this house. I think one older home was enough for him! _________________ "You can kinda just be. Just live your life -- and play." Adam Lambert - OUT mag.

Well, there are always epiphany's as you are doing projects...hubby pointed out last night that the small dark navy tiles in the back splash and in the borders in the shower and tub will not go with the new paint color and floor and he is right. We are going to try to paint them and are researching paint you can use for tile. There are not that many of them and it will be fun to add a decorative accent. Does'nt hurt he is an artist too...

Oh, how exciting! What ideas or colors are you thinking of using? Hubby is an artist? What kind of artist? Media? Themes? Oh, how I wish I could draw or paint! I love it when 'they' come up with ideas on how to change things instead of me trying to sell an idea.

Me too! Mr HL is/was an oil and watercolor painter, but has'nt been painting recently. He like to do figurative paintings, but also did some landscapes, and even did equestrian themed stuff for a while. He got kind of burned out trying to get into shows and what once was a hobby that he enjoyed turned into a stressor because he wanted it to become a money making business. Art is very competitive and hard to break into galleries and sell your work. After looking at how small the dark blue tiles are though, we will just paint them a solid color and not try to get too creative. The walls are going to be a gray/blue color and you see the tiles. I'm not sure what we will go with really. Something to compliment the colors in the floor tile I think which has a light blue, gray, and light taupe. The surrounding tile will just be white. |
